Why would a newly pierced tongue ring turn from blue to dark purple?

I just got my tongue pierced today and within a minute my brilliant blue tongue ring I chose turned into a dark dingy purple-ish color? What would cause this?

  1. kjgfhk says:

i think your saliva is fading out the color.

Probably a chemical reaction between the rings finish and the saliva in your mouth.

This could be many things. 1: is it tainted with blood? try rinsing out your mouth with water. 2: is the paint on the ring water based? if they used the wrong paint on the ring or gave you a faulty ring, the chemicals in your saliva could have discolored it (this is one of the most unlikely cases) 3: are you sure the ring was blue when you got it?!

If the Barbell was acrylic or titanium (which I’m almost 100% sure it was either of those two) the constant wetness from your saliva made the jewelry fade or turn colors.
