Although it may be pricey, it will probably last you forever. Places like Rock of Ages (as you said) and Rock and Roll Religion do sell that kind of stuff, but its wayyy overpriced. 22$ for a 12g surgical steel captive bead ring. Its more expensive than the cheapo jewelry in any mall store, but it is way better quality. Plus they can clean it for you and even put it in for you! A side note though, coloured titanium (which im guessing is the "black" that "came off") always fades evenutally, especially on oral jewelry, but it should last muuuuch longer than just two weeks!
