Reasons Why Cheap Jewelry Discolors

If you’ve ever bought cheap jewelry that leaves a greenish in color spot on your skin I’m sure you’ve wondered why it does that. Generally ~ it’s a reaction to base metal to anyone who wheres jewelry made from cheaper metals.
It can happen to some faster than others; though, due to the fact that everyone has different skin.

Even the more expensive jewelry can have the same effect~ reason being it’s not one hundred percent pure; no matter how much it costs. Platinum is one metal that usually doesn’t react with skin so there should be no concern if you own platinum jewelry. If you have gold jewelry and want to stop it from making you look green be sure its not plated gold – its a cheaper metal with a thin gold layer that will wear off. For ‘real’ gold jewelry opting for 18 karat only can help reduce the marks that are left on your skin.
Jewelry made from copper will almost always turn your skin green and its hard to stop it.

Try to avoid wearing jewelry when you’re sweating a lot it can amplify the skin to metal reaction and also ask your jeweler if there is anything that he can coat the jewelry item with – to minimize the amount of green reaction your skin has. If you can find something to keep the reaction to a minimum you should be able to wear your jewelry quite often.
Don’t forget~ the green effect won’t hurt you. It’s simply a reaction and not allergies.
Allergies will turn your skin red and also will make your skin inflamed and itchy. Which is a far cry from a green skin reaction.
If you do get an allergy to a piece of jewelry stop wearing that right away. If all you have is green skin you are safe to keep wearing the jewelry you may just have to clean your skin more so its not ugly.

At the end of the day applying a coating is probably the answer.
