Ive had mine for what will be a year in july, I can leave mine out for a full day and night withought the hole closing up (when i do put it back in i can feel that it is a little snug, but it still goes in without me having to push it or anything) I've noticed the longer you have it the longer it can be kept out so you should be able to leave it out for a couple days without any problem. My hair dresser has had hers done for a few years and she says she can leave it out for months without it growing in.
