How long does it take for a tongue ring piecercing to grow closed?

I have had my tongue ring for about a year now, if not longer. On Saturday morning I took the bar out because of a blister underneath the ball. Now this morning when I tried to put it back it seems to have grown closed in the middle. I have left my tongue ring out for a lot longer than this. Why would it have grown closed?

the tounge is one of the quickest healing parts of your body

It depends on the person on how quick it heals over. I new this one guy the took out his tongue ring ad in an hour it closed over and eventually he got it done again and he had to take it out cause he was going to jail and he still had it after a year. I know that it depends on the person with how fast it closes over. Also you could have when you had the blister to rinse your mouth out with a mouth wash and water mixture or salt water to get rid of it (I had to do that with mine when I got one it destroys it and kills it). Another person said you shouldn’t force it in, that is true you do not want to do that, I agree leave it out and get it redone if you want to. Also talk to your piercer about your troubles they would be able to tell you what to do about it next time. Hope this helps:)

I think piercings grow over more quickly when there is an irritation or a lesion of some sort (such as the blister you mention). I suspect things may have been a bit tender in there before you actually noticed the blister, and so the body just thought, “Oh, yeah, we’ll fix this up,” and sent in the platelets, and then, as soon as you removed the ring, the cells got to work multiplying, and suddenly you were without your piercing.

When there is irritation or trauma in a pierced area, it is very likely that it will heal up quickly to try and fix the problem at hand. Also, I have known people with theirs pierced for years and took it out for a few hours and it closed, but everyone heals differently. I suggest that you do not force the jewelry in, but rather, let the area heal up completely and get it re-pierced if you wish.
