Can I bring my own body jewelry to a piercing place instead of buying theirs?

The jewelry they have you buy when you get piercings usually costs three or four times a price I would pay elsewhere for the same quality and material, so a piercing that’s $25 or so could end up costing something like $50 total with jewelry included. Have you ever brought in your own jewelry and had them use it after you got pierced so you would only have to pay for the piercing?

If it makes a difference, I’m not allergic to any metals, I live around LA, and I’m thinking about a rook-to-helix industrial (if anyone knows how much this piercing costs, I’d love to know).

Thanks!

I don’t think so. I think it violates some sort of health code.

I’m not completely sure. It depends on the place. Some might allow it, but others might not b/c they want ur money…so u should probably check and ask the ppl at the place before u show up w/ur own jewelry.

Usually, the jewelry is pre-packaged and sterile. That way there is no health liability for the business doing the piercing.

What you put in your body after you leave their place of business is up to you. But they will protect themselves by using their own.

Like a lot of situations, it depends on the shop.

no. i tried once but since their jewelry is sterilized they prefer to use their own so that there will be no problem and you cant be going to them crying about how something got infected.

They usually prefer to use their own jewelry because its been sterilized, but it never hurts to ask and most places have a sterilizing machine.

I’m sure that the piercing place doesn’t really appreciate it since they’re losing a profit off of jewelry you could have bought from them, but I have done this before. I had an industrial piercing done with my own jewelry and they just charged me for the piercing. Nothing wrong with it as long as the jewelry is brand new and never used.

no, you have to use their jewelry because it is clean. brand new jewelry wont get infected as easy.

yeah you can because I did it!

Check with your piercer. They will need to autoclave the jewelry for you and size it to make sure that it’s appropriate for the initial piercing and will fit to your anatomy, but it’s kind of 50/50 as to whether they’ll agree to do it or not. There WILL be an additional cost to autoclave it and you will need to take the jewelry in a day or two ahead of time, so that they will have time to do the autoclaving (this sterilizes it).

As a professional licensed piercer, I’ll tell you
it just depends. We only use our own jewelry, same for any shop I’ve worked in. There are lots of reasons why, mainly health and liability issues. But i find it offensive when people try to bicker about price and such. If u want a piercing save your money and do it properly. It’s not worth your risking your health. And if your piercer is helpful and friendly and does a good job, don’t forget to tip!! :-D stay healthy!!
